Description of the training: Power BI Advanced Training Course
Description of the Power BI Advanced Training Course

This Microsoft Power BI Advanced training course is designed for professionals who already master the basics of Power BI and want to deepen their skills in data modelling, ETL transformations and advanced DAX measures.

Over these two intensive days, you will learn to make full use of the ETL Query Editor to prepare and transform your data, to design complex data models with several fact tables, and to master active, inactive and bidirectional relationships.

The programme places the emphasis on advanced DAX functions, notably Time Intelligence for calculating variances, running totals and comparisons over rolling periods. You will also discover variables, conditional functions and dynamic formatting techniques for creating visually striking dashboards.

Enriched with numerous practical cases and demonstrations, this course will enable you to create optimised reports with custom themes, advanced tooltips, interactive bookmarks and visuals from the Microsoft gallery. Every exercise is carried out directly in Power BI Desktop.

Sessions are guaranteed with a minimum of one participant (except in cases of force majeure).

A preliminary interview takes place between the participant and/or a company representative in order to take full account of the participant’s profile (level, needs, professional context, challenges, etc.).

Assessment: during the training course, the trainer assesses participants’ progress through quizzes, role-plays and practical exercises. Participants receive a certificate of achievement at the end of the course.

This training course is part of our Power Platform Training Courses catalogue. Explore all our Power Platform training courses to automate, analyse and build your business applications without code.

Objectives of the training: Power BI Advanced Training Course
Objectives of the Power BI Advanced Training Course

By the end of the training course, participants will be able to:

  • Make full use of the ETL Query Editor to connect, transform and structure data from multiple, heterogeneous sources.
  • Design complex data models incorporating several fact tables, advanced relationships and calculated tables.
  • Master advanced DAX functions, notably Time Intelligence, variables and conditional functions for sophisticated business calculations.
  • Create visually optimised reports using custom themes, advanced tooltips, bookmarks and interactions between visuals.
Prerequisites of the training: Power BI Advanced Training Course
Prerequisites
  • To follow this training course in the best conditions, we recommend having attended the Power BI Introduction (Designing your dashboard) course, or having equivalent knowledge of the Power BI Desktop fundamentals.
  • Regular practice with Power BI and familiarity with the basic concepts of data modelling and simple DAX formulas will make the advanced modules easier to follow.
  • Because every participant is unique, a personalised interview with our expert allows us to design a training course perfectly aligned with their objectives, level and professional challenges.

FAQ
What is Power BI?

Power BI is Microsoft’s Business Intelligence suite, which lets you connect, transform, model and visualise data from heterogeneous sources (Excel, SQL, Dataverse, SAP, APIs, files). It comprises Power BI Desktop (report creation), Power BI Service (cloud publishing) and Power BI Mobile. The MFE-IT Advanced training course targets users who already have the basics and want to make the most of DAX, advanced Power Query and enterprise features.

What is the DAX language in Power BI?

DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) is the formula language of Power BI, Analysis Services and Power Pivot. It lets you create calculated measures, calculated columns and derived tables. Mastering DAX (CALCULATE, FILTER, ALL, SUMMARIZE, VAR/RETURN variables) is the key to building advanced business KPIs. The MFE-IT Advanced training course devotes a significant part of its programme to DAX in context and to Time Intelligence patterns.

What is the difference between Power BI and Excel?

Excel remains a versatile spreadsheet suited to one-off analyses and small volumes. Power BI is designed for enterprise reporting: large data models, automatic refresh, row-level security (RLS), collaborative cloud sharing, and rich interactive visualisations. Both share the Power Query engine and DAX, which makes the skills transferable.

How long is the Power BI Advanced training course?

The MFE-IT training course lasts 2 days (14 hours), in a 100% tailored format with a maximum of 3 participants per session. It goes deeper into Power Query (M functions, parameters), the star schema data model, advanced DAX (Time Intelligence, filter/row context), custom visuals, RLS, and publishing to the Power BI Service. 30 days of post-course support are included.
