Discovering Microsoft Project and project management
- Project management principles (tasks, milestones, constraints, resources). Discovering the interface, the ribbon and the views. Setting up a new project (calendar, start date, options).
Creating and structuring a schedule
- Enter tasks and organise them into phases (outline mode). Define durations, milestones and summary tasks. Structure a clear, hierarchical schedule.
Task links and the critical path
- Create links between tasks (finish-to-start, etc.). Understand the critical path and slack. Manage constraints and deadlines. Read the Gantt chart.
Managing and assigning resources
- Create resources (work, material, cost). Assign resources to tasks. Understand the work / duration / capacity relationship. Spot over-allocations.
Tracking project progress
- Save the baseline. Enter task progress. Track schedule variances. Update and adjust the schedule during the project.
Views, reports and printing
- Use and customise views (Gantt, calendar, tasks, resources). Filter and group data. Produce and print reports to communicate on the project.
