PostgreSQL training course

Description of the PostgreSQL Training Course

PostgreSQL has become one of the most widely adopted DBMSs in critical and cloud environments. Robust, scalable and open source, it nevertheless requires rigorous administration to get the most out of its performance.

This PostgreSQL training course guides you through the implementation, daily administration and security of a PostgreSQL server. Through practical workshops, you will learn how to deploy a server, structure data, manage users, optimise queries and ensure high availability.

Also discover our Language SQL Training Course.

Format

Remote (recorded sessions).

GOOD TO KNOW

This training course includes numerous exercises (60% practical) to enhance learning. Even if you are the only one registered, the session will still take place (except in cases of force majeure). A preliminary interview is held between the participant and/or a company representative in order to fully assess the participant’s profile (level, needs, professional context, challenges, etc.).
Assessment : during the training course, the trainer assesses the participants’ progress through multiple-choice questions, role-playing exercises and practical work. Participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training course.

objectives of this PostgreSQL Training Course

By the end, each participant will be able to :

  • Install and configure a secure PostgreSQL server
  • Create and administer databases and user roles
  • Structure schemas, types, and indexes for performance
  • Implement a backup/restore policy
  • Monitor activity and diagnose common problems
  • Optimise queries and fine-tune the engine

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of SQL
  • Experience with a Unix/Linux system
  • No prior knowledge of PostgreSQL required
  • Because each participant has a unique background and expectations, a preliminary interview with our expert allows us to precisely identify their objectives, level and professional challenges.
This enables us to tailor the training content to ensure relevant and personalised learning.

Target Audience

A must-have for developers, system administrators, or DBAs who wish to use PostgreSQL in a demanding professional environment.

FAQ – PostgreSQL Training

PostgreSQL is an open-source relational database management system known for its reliability, SQL standards compliance, and advanced features (JSON, PostGIS, replication, partitioning, vector search with pgvector). It is used from startups to large government agencies. MFE-IT trains DBAs and developers in its administration and optimization.

PostgreSQL prioritizes strict SQL compliance and advanced features (recursive CTEs, JSONB, extensions), while MySQL has historically been simpler and oriented toward fast reads, and Oracle is a very rich but expensive commercial DBMS. PostgreSQL is often chosen for its features-to-cost ratio and its open-source ecosystem.

Best practices include pg_dump / pg_basebackup for backups, WAL archiving for PITR, streaming replication for high availability, encryption (TLS, pgcrypto), and hardening via pg_hba.conf and roles. MFE-IT covers setting up a robust backup and security strategy.

The training lasts 3 days, i.e. 21 hours, either remotely or on-site, with a maximum of 3 participants per session and 30 days of post-training support included.
