FAQ – SharePoint Online Intranet Training
How do I create an intranet in SharePoint Online?
Creating an intranet in SharePoint Online starts with hub sites: a top-level Communication site as the home, connected hub sites for departments and topics, and team sites underneath. Add a global navigation, a search-driven content architecture, news posts, and Viva Connections for the mobile/Teams experience. SharePoint Look Book templates accelerate the design. MFE-IT trains intranet builders on assembling all these pieces into a coherent platform.
What is the difference between a Communication site and a Team site?
A Communication site is designed for one-to-many broadcasting — news, policies, internal marketing — typically with read-only access for most users. A Team site is designed for collaboration within a group — shared documents, projects, conversations — with members editing actively. Most modern intranets combine both: Communication sites for content, Team sites for work. The MFE-IT SharePoint Online Intranet training covers when to use each.
What is a SharePoint hub site?
A SharePoint hub site is a parent site that other sites can associate with, sharing common navigation, branding (theme, logo), search scope, and news aggregation. Hubs let you compose intranets from many sites without losing visual and navigational coherence. Through MFE-IT’s hands-on approach, learners design and build a hub-based intranet structure during the training.
What is Viva Connections?
Microsoft Viva Connections is the employee experience layer that surfaces your SharePoint intranet inside Microsoft Teams (and on mobile), with personalized news, dashboards (cards, viva connections feed), and resources. It turns your intranet into an integrated employee gateway rather than a separate website. Our MFE-IT training course on SharePoint Online Intranet covers Viva Connections deployment alongside the SharePoint structure.
