Description of the training: Routing and Firewalling Training Course – Design, Configure and Secure Networks
About the Routing and Firewalling Training Course

This Routing and Firewalling training course prepares IT professionals to design, configure and secure network routing and firewall architectures. You will learn to implement static and dynamic routing protocols, configure multi-zone firewall policies, manage network address translation and build secure network segmentation. The programme covers routing fundamentals, OSPF, BGP basics, firewall architectures, security policies, VPN and intrusion prevention concepts. By the end, you will be able to design and secure enterprise network infrastructures. Hands-on labs and real-world scenarios are at the core of this training. Also discover our Network Administration (Switching and Routing) Training Course, our CCNA Cisco 200-301 training, our Fortinet NSE4 training and our Local Networks and TCP/IP Fundamentals training.

Good to know
Good to know

This course includes numerous exercises (60% hands-on practice) for better learning. Sessions are guaranteed from a single registrant (except in cases of force majeure). A preliminary interview takes place between the participant and/or a company representative in order to fully take into account the participant’s profile (level, needs, professional context, challenges, etc.).

Assessment: during the training, the trainer assesses participants’ learning progress through quizzes, role-play and hands-on exercises. Participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.

This course is part of our Computer Network Training Courses catalogue. Explore our other networking trainings to design, configure and operate reliable network infrastructures.

Objectives of the training: Routing and Firewalling Training Course – Design, Configure and Secure Networks
Objectives of the Routing and Firewalling Training Course

By the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the key principles of network routing (static, dynamic, routing tables) and the forwarding decisions used to route traffic between networks
  • Master firewall capabilities, their role in security, the different types (stateful, stateless, NGFW) and filtering rules
  • Design and deploy secure network architectures including routing and firewalling
  • Configure effective filtering policies to control traffic, protect critical resources and limit external/internal threats
  • Diagnose and resolve routing and traffic-security issues using tools and best practices
Prerequisites of the training: Routing and Firewalling Training Course – Design, Configure and Secure Networks
Prerequisites
  • Basic knowledge of IP and TCP/IP networks (addressing, subnets)
  • Familiarity with local network (LAN) and Internet access concepts
  • Prior experience with network equipment (routers/switches) or network virtualisation is a plus

Because every participant is unique, a personalised interview with our expert allows us to design a course perfectly aligned with their objectives, level and professional challenges.

FAQ
What are routing and firewalling?

Routing means determining the path of IP packets between networks, using protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, RIP and routing tables. Firewalling means filtering that traffic according to security rules (ACLs, stateful inspection, application policy) to protect resources.

What is the difference between static and dynamic routing?

Static routing is configured manually, suited to small architectures or critical links. Dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP) learns paths automatically and adapts to failures. Our MFE-IT course covers both, with trade-offs based on network size and criticality.

How do you design a multi-zone firewall architecture?

A multi-zone firewall architecture separates traffic into zones (LAN, DMZ, WAN, VPN, guests) with specific security policies between zones. It relies on stateful inspection, application inspection, IPS and granular rules. MFE-IT provides reference templates during the labs.

How long does it take to master routing and firewalling?

Our Routing and Firewalling course runs over 5 days (35 hours) in a fully tailored format. This volume covers the routing protocols, the design of secure architectures and hands-on labs on realistic equipment.
