Description of the training: Power Query & ETL Training Course
This Power Query & ETL training course teaches you to automate data preparation, a key step in any reliable analysis. Over two highly practical days, you will discover ETL logic (extract, transform, load) and the Power Query editor found in Excel and Power BI. You will connect to a variety of sources, clean and transform data, then merge several queries to build a robust, refreshable flow. By the end, you will be able to make your data imports reliable and automated, and save considerable time on every update.

To follow this course under the best conditions, it is recommended to be proficient with the basics of Excel (tables, formulas, PivotTables). No prior knowledge of Power Query is required. Discovering Power Query and ETL
- Understand the ETL approach (extract, transform, load). Discover the Power Query editor in Excel and Power BI. Overview of the interface and the applied steps. Best practices for organising queries.
Connecting to data sources
- Connect to files (Excel, CSV, text), folders and databases. Import data from the Web. Configure and manage connections. Understand data types.
Cleaning and transforming data
- Clean data (columns, rows, null values). Transform and restructure (pivot, unpivot, split, replace). Create custom and conditional columns. Introduction to the M language.
Merging and combining queries
- Merge queries (joins). Append queries (stacking). Combine files from a folder. Create reusable custom functions.
Automating and refreshing
- Load data to Excel or the data model. Refresh queries automatically. Organise and document queries. Make an ETL flow reliable and maintainable over time.

What is Power Query?
Power Query is the data extraction and transformation tool built into Excel and Power BI. It lets you connect to many sources, clean and restructure data, then refresh it automatically. It is at the heart of this course.
What is an ETL?
ETL stands for Extract, Transform, Load. It is the process of retrieving data from different sources, preparing it, then loading it into an analysis tool. Power Query is an ETL tool available directly within Excel and Power BI.
Does Power Query work with both Excel and Power BI?
Yes. Power Query is present in both Excel and Power BI, with the same logic and a near-identical interface. The skills gained in this course are therefore directly reusable in both tools.
How long does the Power Query & ETL training course last?
The course lasts 2 days, i.e. 14 hours. Sessions are guaranteed from the first registration and take place in a small group of 1 to 3 participants. The programme can be customised and organised at your premises.
