Description of the training: AWS FinOps Training Course–AWS Cloud Financial Management
AWS FinOps Training Course Description

This AWS FinOps training course teaches you the best practices to manage, optimise and forecast the costs of your workloads on Amazon Web Services. In a context where controlling cloud spend has become a strategic priority, this course gives you the keys to establish a FinOps culture within your organisation.

Over these two days, you will learn to use AWS native cost management tools: AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, Cost and Usage Reports, and AWS Cost Anomaly Detection. You will master the different purchasing models (On-Demand, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot Instances) and know how to choose the most suitable one for each scenario.

The course also covers architectural optimisation strategies to reduce costs: instance rightsizing, storage lifecycle management, serverless architectures and resource tagging to embed cloud accountability across your teams. Also discover our Terraform Training Course, our Terraform Training and our CompTIA Cloud+ Certification Training Course.

To place cost control within an architecture approach: our AWS Advanced Architecture Training Course designs resilient, optimised environments, and our AWS Migration Training Course includes post-migration optimisation, often the first source of savings.

Sessions are guaranteed from just 1 registrant (except in cases of force majeure). A preliminary interview takes place between the participant and/or a company representative in order to fully account for the participant’s profile (level, needs, professional context, challenges, etc.).
Assessment: during the training, the trainer evaluates participants’ progress through multiple-choice questions, role-playing exercises and hands-on work. Participants receive a certificate of achievement at the end of the training.

This training course is part of our Cloud Computing Training Courses catalogue. Discover our other cloud courses to master architectures, services and best practices on AWS, Azure and GCP.

Objectives of the training: AWS FinOps Training Course–AWS Cloud Financial Management
AWS FinOps Training Course Objectives

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of AWS pricing and the different purchasing models (On-Demand, RI, Savings Plans, Spot).
  • Use AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets and cost reports to track and analyse cloud spend.
  • Implement cost optimisation strategies: rightsizing, scheduling, lifecycle policies and serverless architectures.
  • Set up a tagging and cost-allocation system to break down spend by project, team or environment.
  • Design cost-optimized architectures by applying the best practices of the cost optimisation pillar of the Well-Architected Framework.
Prerequisites of the training: AWS FinOps Training Course–AWS Cloud Financial Management
Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of AWS services and the management console is recommended. Familiarity with fundamental cloud concepts (instances, storage, networking) will make the optimisation strategies easier to understand.

AWS Cloud Practitioner certification or equivalent experience is an asset.

Target audience of the training: AWS FinOps Training Course–AWS Cloud Financial Management
Target audience for the AWS FinOps Training Course
  • Cloud managers and Cloud Centers of Excellence (CCoE) responsible for AWS cost governance.
  • Solutions architects and DevOps engineers wishing to embed cost optimisation into their architectures.
  • CFOs, management controllers and financial analysts involved in tracking cloud spend.
  • Any IT or business professional wishing to adopt FinOps practices for optimal AWS cloud management.

AWS Pricing Fundamentals
  • Understand AWS pricing principles: pay-as-you-go, free tiers and per-service billing models.
  • Explore the purchasing models: On-Demand, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans and Spot Instances.
  • Analyse cost components: compute, storage, data transfer and managed services.
  • Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate the monthly cost of an architecture.
Cost Tracking and Reporting Tools
  • Navigate AWS Cost Explorer: views, filters, groupings and spend forecasts.
  • Configure AWS Budgets: threshold alerts, automated actions and notifications.
  • Leverage Cost and Usage Reports (CUR) for granular analysis.
  • Detect cost anomalies with AWS Cost Anomaly Detection.
Cost Optimisation Strategies
  • Implement EC2 instance rightsizing with AWS Compute Optimizer.
  • Optimise storage: S3 lifecycle policies, EBS volume types and orphaned snapshot cleanup.
  • Leverage serverless architectures to reduce infrastructure costs.
  • Schedule and automate the stop/start of non-production resources with AWS Instance Scheduler.
FinOps Governance and Culture
  • Set up a structured tagging system for cost allocation by project, team and environment.
  • Configure AWS Organizations and SCPs for multi-account governance.
  • Design cost-tracking dashboards and FinOps KPIs for management reporting.
  • Adopt the FinOps principles: inform, optimize, operate–and build a culture of cloud accountability.
  • Apply the cost optimisation pillar of the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
Course highlights
  • Focuses on AWS cloud financial management (FinOps)
  • Covers cost visibility, optimisation and governance
  • Builds on real-world FinOps practices
  • Helps you control and optimise cloud spend
FAQ
What is FinOps?

FinOps is a discipline that combines finance, cloud engineering and business to control cloud costs while maintaining velocity. On AWS, this translates into precise spend management (EC2, S3, RDS, EKS, data transfer, etc.), pricing models (On-Demand, Savings Plans, Reserved, Spot) and account governance.

What is the difference between FinOps and simple cost optimisation?

One-off optimisation reduces a single bill. FinOps builds a sustainable capability: tools (Cost Explorer, Budgets, CUR, QuickSight), rituals, tags, anomaly detection and shared finance/tech accountability. MFE-IT helps you build this FinOps model within your organisation.

Who is this AWS FinOps training course for?

Cloud architects, DevOps teams, IT finance managers, CTOs, CIOs and PMOs who need to understand and manage AWS costs. Prior knowledge of AWS is strongly recommended.

Does the course cover cost analysis, budgeting and optimisation of AWS spend?

Yes. The programme covers AWS cloud financial management (FinOps): cost visibility and allocation, AWS Cost Explorer and budgets, optimisation (right-sizing, reserved instances/Savings Plans), governance and FinOps culture.

What is FinOps and who is this approach for?

FinOps is a cloud financial management practice that brings finance, technical and business teams together to optimise spend. The course is aimed at cloud, finance and management profiles who want to control and reduce their AWS bill.

How long is the AWS FinOps training course at MFE-IT?

The training lasts 2 days (14 hours), remotely or on-site. The format is geared towards concrete FinOps methods and tools on AWS.
